새한영어영문학회는 “피지컬 AI와 몸: 로봇, 사이보그, 그리고 장애” (Physical AI and the Body: Robots, Cyborgs, and Disability) 라는 주제로 2026년도 봄 학술대회를 개최하고자 합니다. 인간의 신체 일부를 대체하는 보정장치에서부터 인간과 일상을 공유하고 복잡한 인간의 노동마저 대체하는 휴머노이드에 이르기까지, AI는 이제 사이버 공간만이 아니라 피지컬 공간에서 본격적으로 사용되고 있습니다. 환경에 민감하게 반응하고 고차원적인 행동을 취하는 신체화된 지능으로서, 피지컬 AI는 전례가 없는 수준으로 인간과 기계의 이분법에 도전합니다. 이에 새한영어영문학회는 이번 학술대회를 통해 기술, 유기체, 정체성, 취약성 등이 교차하는 장으로서 ‘몸’의 의미를 새롭게 탐구하고자 합니다. AI 시대가 몸에 대한 어떤 새로운 이해와 태도를 요청하는지, 문학은 증강된 신체, 비규범적 신체, 혼종적 신체를 어떻게 재현하는지, 사이보그 그리고 장애 이론은 인간 신체의 자율성 혹은 상호의존성을 어떻게 재고하는지 등을 질문하는 연구를 환영합니다. 문학 연구를 중심으로 (피지컬) AI, 사이보그, 로봇, 장애 등 다양한 분야의 대화를 촉진하여 기술과 접속된 시대의 몸, 그리고 인간다움의 의미를 새롭게 사유하는 자리가 될 것을 기대합니다.

The New Korean Association of English Language and Literature plans to host its 2026 spring conference entitled “Physical AI and the Body: Robots, Cyborgs, and Disability.” From prosthetic devices that replace parts of the human body to humanoids that share everyday life with us and perform complex human labor, AI is now increasingly operating not only in cyberspace but also in physical space. As an embodied intelligence that interacts with environments and carries out appropriate actions, physical AI challenges the human–machine binary at an unprecedented level. Through this conference, the New Korean Association of English Language and Literature seeks to explore the meaning of the “body” as a site where technology, organism, identity, and vulnerability intersect. We welcome research that asks what new understandings and attitudes toward the body the age of AI demands; how literature represents augmented, non-normative, or hybrid bodies; and how cyborg and disability theories reconsider the autonomy or interdependence of the human body. Focusing on literary studies while encouraging dialogue between fields such as (physical) AI, cyborg studies, robotics, and disability studies, this conference aims to create a space for rethinking the body in the age of technological entanglement and for reflecting on the meaning of humanity.
