안녕하십니까? 2021년 가을학술대회의 주제는 ”’길 위에서’: 여행과 인문학”입니다. 코로나19 대유행으로 당연하게 누리던 것들이 더 이상 당연하지 않게 된 날들이 늘어가는 가운데, 많은 나라들이 문을 걸어 잠그면서 여행의 자유가 현격히 줄어들었을 뿐 아니라 여행의 모습 또한 많이 바뀌었습니다. 이에 이번 가을학술대회는 ‘여행’에 대해 다시 성찰해 보고 이야기를 나누는 자리로 마련하고자 합니다. 여행이란 무엇일까요? 여행을 가장 넓은 의미에서 이동이라 본다면 어떤 형태들이 있을까요? 여행이 떠나기, 곧 나를 둘러싼 익숙한 세계를 벗어나 낯선 곳으로 들어서기를 수반한다고 했을 때, 떠남의 목적은 무엇이며 낯선 세계와의 조우에서 발생하는 것들은 무엇일까요? 어떤 정치, 경제, 문화적 요인이 여행의 방식에 영향을 줄까요? 새로운 지식과 테크놀로지는 우리가 여행하는 방식을 어떻게 바꾸어 오고 있을까요? 물리적 여행은 줄고 온라인 여행과 접촉이 늘고 있는 최근에는 어떤 새로운 형태의 여행이 출현하고 있을까요? 문학과 여행의 관계는 무엇일까요? 언어는 또한 여행과 어떤 상호작용을 할까요? 언어는 시간과 공간의 차원에서 어떻게 변하고 있고, 새로운 문화를 접하는 것이 언어를 습득하고 학습하는데 어떠한 영향을 끼칠까요? 인간의 여행과 비인간의 여행은 어떤 방식으로 교차하고 이들의 교차는 어떤 연결망을 만들어내며, 어떻게 작동하고 있을까요?
여행과 관련된 다양한 이슈를 넓게는 인문학적 관점, 좁게는 영어영문학의 관점에서 탐구하는 20분 분량의 발표로 초대합니다. 발표 주제는 아래를 포함하되 이에 국한되지 않습니다. 일반 주제 발표도 가능하니 많은 신청 바랍니다.

l 영문 초록 및 발표문 마감: 2021년 9월 30일까지 (발표언어에 상관없이 영문 초록 제출, 발표문은 한글/워드, 파워포인트 슬라이드 등 다양한 형식으로 제출 가능)
※ 영문 초록은 Proceedings에 수록될 예정이며, 200-250 단어 정도의 분량으로 작성해 주시기 바랍니다.
발표문은 Proceedings 수록이 아니라 해당 세션의 사회자, 토론자 배포용입니다.

Theme: “On the Road”: Travel and the Humanities

The theme for the 2021 fall conference is “‘On the Road’: Travel and the Humanities.” In the face of the COVID-19 pandemic that has made it impossible for us to enjoy what we took for granted in our everyday life, our freedom to travel not only has been significantly limited as nations close their borders, but also how we travel has greatly changed. The pandemic ironically provides us a good opportunity to rethink and talk about what it means to travel. If we conceptualize travel as movement in its broadest meaning possible, what forms of travel can we think of? Travelling involves leaving the familiar and entering an unfamiliar world. What are the purposes of this leaving, and what happens to this encounter with the unknown? What economic, political, and cultural factors affect the ways in which we travel? How have new knowledge and technologies been transforming our ways of travelling? What new forms of travelling are emerging as we travel and contact more in the virtual world than in the physical world? How does literature engage with travelling? How does language interact with travelling? How do human languages change on the dimensions of time and space? How does our experience with foreign cultures affect the way we acquire and learn language? How do human forms of travelling intersect with nonhuman forms of travelling? What network do they together form and how does that network operate?
We cordially invite 20-minute presentations that explore such a wide variety of issues of travel from perspectives of the humanities in general and of English language and literature in particular. Suggested topics include but are not limited to the following. We also welcome presenta
