안녕하십니까.
코로나가 중국과 몇몇 나라를 넘어 전세계적인 유행병으로 번지고 있습니다. 이러한 상황의 여파 때문인지 2020년 봄학술대회 발표를 신청하신 분이 많지 않습니다. 이에 우리학회는 발표신청 기간을 2020년 3월 31일까지로 연장합니다. 발표신청은 문학은 장경순 학술이사(changks@silla.ac.kr), 어학은 정현경 학술이사(hkjung@silla.ac.kr)에게 하시면 됩니다.
하루 속히 코로나 사태가 진정되어 평안한 일상으로 돌아가기를 기원하면서, 다시 한번 회원 선생님들의 많은 관심과 참여를 부탁드립니다.

2020년 새한영어영문학회 봄학술대회 Call for Papers
일시: 2020년 5월 9일 (토요일)
장소: 부경대학교
주제: “손님: 환대와 냉대 사이”
Hote(Host/Guest): Between Hospitality and Inhospitality
『환대에 대하여』에서 자크 데리다는 “hote”라는 말이 주인이라는 의미를 지니고 있는 동시에 손님이라는 의미도 있음을 환기합니다. 즉 주체/타자로 나뉠 수 있는 상황은 항상 역전이 될 수 있어서 언제든 주인이 손님이 되고 손님이 주인이 될 수 있다는 것입니다. 데리다는 늘 “경계, 한계, 문지방, 이 문지방을 향해 가는 발걸음”에 대한 성찰을 했습니다. 에마뉘엘 레비나스 또한 주체와 타자와의 관계와 환대에 대해 깊은 논의를 했습니다. 레비나스는 주인과 손님 사이의 상호적인 환대를 넘어서, 칸트가 말한 “조건부 환대”가 아닌 데리다의 “무조건적 환대”와 맥을 같이하고 있습니다. 침략자와 같은 비우호적 손님도 포용해야 하는 “무조건적 환대”의 (불)가능한 요청 앞에서 우리는 인간적인 한계를 드러내며 끊임없이 성찰을 하게 됩니다. 이에 주체가 타자와의 공존을 위해 어떻게 타자를 대해야 하는지에 대한 “윤리”를 고민하게 합니다. 세계적으로 전염병이 확산되며 경계가 강화되는 오늘의 시기는 손님, 난민, 이민자, 이주노동자, 여행자 등에 대한 환대와 냉대를 논의하기 적절한 시점입니다.
이에 새한영어영문학회는 “손님: 환대와 냉대 사이”라는 주제를 두고 중견, 신진학자, 대학원생, 학부생, 그리고 다양한 학문의 전문가들을 “주인/손님”으로 모시고자 합니다.
주제와 관련한 20분 분량의 발표 신청을 받습니다. 토론 주제는 아래 사항들을 포함하지만 그에 제한되지 않으며, 일반 주제에 대한 발표도 환영합니다.

2020 NKAELL Spring Conference

Theme: Hote(Host/Guest): Between Hospitality and Inhospitality
In Jacques Derrida’s Of Hospitality, he reminds us that un “hote” means a “guest” as well as a “host.” In other words, because the situation in which a person is considered the subject or the other may be reversed, the host can be the guest, and the guest the host. Derrida has always reflected on “the border, the limit, the threshold, the step beyond this threshold.” Emmanuel Levinas also has discussed the relationship between the subject and the other, and hospitality in depth. Levinas goes beyond the mutual hospitality between the host and the guest. And his thought is not in line with what Kant called “conditional hospitality” but with Derrida’s “unconditional hospitality.” In the face of the (im)possible requests for “unconditional hospitality” that must embrace such unfriendly guests as the aggressor, we are constantly reflecting on our human limitations. And we contemplate the “ethics” of how to treat the other in order for the subject to co-exist with the other. As the new coronavirus spreads around the world and the countries strengthen the border controls, we believe there is no better time than now to discuss how hospitality or inhospitality is met by guests, refugees, immigrants, migrant workers, travelers, etc.
So the New Korean Association of English Language and Literature(NKAELL) will invite all the scholars, graduate/undergraduate students, and other academic experts as our “hosts/guests.”
NKAELL will receive a 20-minute presentation paper on the subject. Discussion topics include the following but are not limited to them, and we welcome presentations on general topics as well.
